We know creativity is a great outlet for stress, building resilience whilst also helping us to manage feelings of anxiety and low mood. And of course, many of us find making things to be relaxing and enjoyable anyway. You overwhelmingly told us in a recent survey that the arts are what you need right now… which is why we would like to invite you to take part in our new weekly arts club!

We’re encouraging everyone to take part in dedicating just two hours to spend getting creative each week. With no enrolment needed and from the comfort of your own homes, you might make some visual art, write a poem, craft something, write a song - the choice is yours.

Instructions on how to take part:

  1. Gather the materials you'd like to use (think outside the box)
  2. Set aside the space and time to get creative. We've suggested every Weds 10am-12pm to        offer structure and consistency; if you have prior commitments at that specific time, that’s okay - you can choose any two hours across the week to dedicate to honing your creativity.
  3. Make! Follow your own ideas or, if you'd prefer a prompt, Lauren (your facilitator) will provide an optional task or theme each week to help you get started. This will be shared across our Facebook and Twitter pages between 9-10am each Wednesday morning.
  4. When you're done, stand back, put your hand on your chin and look at/listen to your masterpiece. This part is essential.
  5. Congratulate yourself!

Optional:

Take good quality images of the work (but please don't include yourself in the photo). Upload it to social media and tag us in (@HFTRecoveryCol on Twitter, or search Humber Recovery College on Facebook) using #RCArtCircle. You can also email things to us at hnf-tr.recoverycollege@nhs.net. We’ll share what you show us through our social media channels and later on in an online gallery on our website.

We are also exploring the possibility of an optional group video/voice call for the future (so we can be in each other’s virtual company whilst we get creative) - we’re not quite there yet but watch this space!

Can’t wait to seeing what you create!
